But don't be fooled by their delicate shell exterior—they have a secret weapon that helps them survive these harsh conditions! 🤫 It's their byssal threads! These elastic fibers are super strong and help them attach themselves to rocks and other mussels. They produce these threads by secreting a liquid from their byssal gland and then solidifying it with seawater. Talk about being resourceful! And guess what? These mussels aren't just tough, they're also tasty! 😋 They filter water to feed on plankton and organic matter, and can you believe that they can filter up to three quarts of water an hour?! NEW meet the crew! Meet Belle.🎏She’s been with us for about six months now and is responsible for delivering to CSF Club members, customer service at farmers’ markets & in store, helping process fish, and being an all-around sparkling, helpful personality around the shop.✨ In her free time, Belle loves camping in Big Sur, surfing, and is an avid fisherwoman always going on cool adventures. 🎣 She’s also a trained lifeguard, EMT and does marine rescue swimming. 🛟 Additionally, she will be going back to school to become be a paramedic in the Spring. 🚑 What a gal! 💪🏾 We feel lucky to have Belle as a part of our fish fam. 🧡 She’s great at cooking fish too so be sure to say hi 👋 and hit her up for her favorite fish recipe the next time you see her. 👩‍🍳
